At number 25 Visbystraat two remarkable enterprises are housed under one roof. They were both set up by entrepreneurial couple Hans and Jocelyn de Waard – Fast ‘N Finish in 2001 and Best-fix two years later. At the end of 2019 both firms moved from Weesp to Deventer.

Fast ’N Finish is a supplier for graphic finishing, specialising in wire stitching machines, stitching heads, stitching wire and paper drills. An important feature is its extensive stock of spare parts for machines that are no longer made. This generates orders from every corner of the globe, from the USA and Canada to South Africa and Australia. Best-fix focuses more on supplies for the packaging and building industries. Products are sold via its own specialist online stores such as cartonclosing.com, handtackers.com, polymerfasteners.com and spenax-Hogrings.com, and distributed from Deventer to the Benelux and beyond. Most sales are online and this percentage is ever growing.

Sliding door systems are also sold under the name Best-fix, which is proud to represent top-of-the-range Italian brand Ermetika in the Benelux. Ermetica is synonymous with quality and is renowned for exquisite design and ‘green’ production methods, which have minimal impact on the environment. Best-fix also imports high-quality rail systems from the Spanish brand KLEIN.

Growing market

Each year about 1.7 million doors are sold in The Netherlands; in the near future sliding doors are expected to make up 10 per cent of sales. This means massive potential. Best-Fix supplies a relatively high number of sliding doors to hotels as well as to architects, property developers and building contractors in the Randstad, the populous west of the country. This is not surprizing. High property prices there mean that every inch of space has to be used efficiently; sliding doors built into walls maximise the use of space.

Future

Because both Fast ‘N Finish and Best-fix operate in various business segments, the companies are less vulnerable to market fluctuations. The graphic industry is going through a tough patch at the moment, although challenges can also bring new opportunities. The sliding door market on the other hand is growing significantly; building contractors may once have been sceptical, but when they have worked with ready-made, built-in systems there is no turning back.
