Menno Both founded his online marketing company Both Social in 2010, as a spin-off from the University of Twente (UT). He started out in the Venturelab in Enschede and has now moved to Deventer. Both Social focuses on the online strategy of multinationals and medium-sized companies throughout the Netherlands. Both Social has five full-time employees and makes use of freelance specialists both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Menno combines scientific insights within a relatively new field of expertise, the fast-paced and ever-changing world of the internet. Combining and translating these insights to the demands of the corporate world has generated a formula for success. With the help of scientific knowledge from UT and Saxion, the Business Model Canvas has been converted into a successful online strategy model. This online strategy canvas is now a fully developed, scientifically validated and published model.
An increasing number of companies and organisations are making use of this model, with success. The Both Social website features and impressive list of references, including many top-of-the-line Dutch brands such as Grolsch, UT, Ten Cate, Van Wijnen and Wolters Kluwer. Besides creating and developing online strategies for companies, a lot of the work goes into giving lectures and online trainings both in the Netherlands and abroad. For example, Both Social has started up an international collaboration with the Emden University of Applied Sciences and Brunel University London. This resulted in a series of online strategy trainings based on the online strategy canvas. Besides offering trainings and lectures abroad, Both Social also helps Dutch companies to create a successful online presence abroad. Collaborations with various Deventer entrepreneurs have been set up to increase their international online presence. Until now, this has primarily been Germany. On the other hand, foreign companies who wish to operate successfully in the Dutch market have also approached Both Social.
Digital Future Book
Together with Brunel University London, Saxion and UT, Both Social has published a book titled Digital Future. By using five successful business cases from Heineken, Wehkamp, Randstad, BT and Booking.com as an example, this book explains in a semi-scientific way why these companies are a success. Export ambition: Menno realises that the book and the international network from the universities that Both Social works with generates opportunities to attract clients from abroad. He has recently established a promising contact in Italy and there is increasing interest from the United Kingdom as well.
