Haacker & van Gastel Advocaten
Bernard Haacker (1972) has been a solicitor for over 22 years. He studied civil and corporate law in Leiden. He went on to study at the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Law, where he obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in 1997, supported by a Fulbright Grant from the Dutch and American government.
In 1997, Bernard started his career at NautaDutilh in Rotterdam and New York in the company law and real estate departments. He then worked in several medium-sized law firms in these fields. Since 2005, Bernhard has his own law office specialising in real estate and corporate law, together with his partner Lucien van Gastel. The business started out in Amsterdam and after moving to Amstelveen, a second office was opened in Deventer.
Haacker & Van Gastel Advocaten advises and litigates in the fields of real estate law, contract and debt collection law and corporate law for a varied group of national and international clients.
Within the real estate law field, Haacker & Van Gastel specialises in tenancy law, homeowner association rights and other civil real estate law matters. Haacker: ‘Tenancy law is a complex field and a thorough knowledge of tenancy law is essential for the prevention, timely identification and solving of problems. With regards to tenancy law, we advise both tenants and landlords during legal proceedings.’
Within corporate law, Haacker & Van Gastel Advocaten advises and litigates on matters such as contract law, company takeovers, shareholder litigation, the formation of companies and the initiation and termination of business partnerships.
The foremost aim is to prevent the initiation or exacerbation of legal proceedings through effective consultation and a strategic approach. If that fails, Haacker & Van Gastel is not afraid to take the offensive, for example by initiating legal proceedings or implementing debt collection measures. Haacker: ‘We litigate relatively often and have brought many of these procedures to a successful conclusion.’ Where possible we naturally try to settle a case, even when a procedure is already underway.
Haacker: ‘We are true real estate specialists. This specialisation is in demand at both a national and international level. We work for a wide range of real estate parties, such as homeowner associations, housing corporations, contractors, educational institutions, businesses and small and large investors. We also act on behalf of international parties regarding construction projects, real estate, or other business investments in the Netherlands, and we act for a foreign financial institution, which is quite unique.”
