Wine Trade

It was back in 1934 that Bernardus Hendrikus Ruchtie launched his wholesale wine business ‘Wijnhandel Rijnland Deventer’. Now a third generation Ruchtie is running the enterprise at Brinkgreverweg 134 in Deventer, making it the oldest wine trader and wine shop in town.

Wine is our passion

Sonja and Boudewin Ruchtie are the joint driving force behind the shop and wine wholesalers. Wine is not only the speciality of the house, it is their passion. The focus is on quality. They import carefully selected wines of impeccable quality for their clients directly. That is reflected in a plethora of radiant write-ups in national and international wine magazines and four years in a row they earned the accolade ‘Wine Specialist of the year’ from the Wine Almanak! Whether we are talking about popular house wines or exclusive grand crus, Ruchtie cuts out the middle man to offer wines at very competitive wholesale prices. They supply private consumers and also high-class hospitality outlets.

Via internet the world over

The shop mainly sells house wines. Exclusive and rare wines are mostly handled by the wine trading part of the company. Boudewijn: “With our own import connections and extensive network we know where to source extraordinary and rare wines, ranging in price from a few hundred to thousands of euros a bottle. Via our online store, which features some 1200 wines, we sell to clients at home and abroad. We are proud of our 5-star rating on the international wine website That is where export to neighbouring countries began. Also very special are our relations with contacts in the Far and Middle East. We supply them with many exclusive wines which are sold on to customers in China, India, Russia and countries in the Middle East.

Boudewijn and Sonja are seeing a continued growth in internet sales. The Corona crisis has resulted some months in a sixfold growth of sales via the online store. Even then personal contact is cherished. Wherever possible, large orders are personally delivered together with their own

wine magazines. “In this way you create and maintain contact with customers and there is nothing is better than to share experience with other people who indulge a passion for wines”.
